If you're thinking about helping Jamaica right now, be careful where your support goes. Disasters like this are often used by the 1% to expand their power...buying up cheap land and rebuilding luxury resorts while regular people get nothing. Those who already control most of the coastline and resorts are usually first in line to benefit from recovery funds because a large percentage of income is from tourism. After Hurricane Irma, developers turned parts of Barbuda into luxury enclaves. In Puerto Rico, post-Maria "recovery" brought outside investors who bought up homes, raised rents, and reshaped neighborhoods to fit tourist dollars, not local needs. That’s why I’m not donating a cent unless I know exactly where the money is going. I’d rather give my time and energy...volunteering on the ground, helping real families rebuild their lives. If you do donate, be cautious and know where the money is going. This country isn’t just resorts and tourism...it’s music, community, culture, and family. We should be rebuilding with Jamaicans, turning the country back to what it stands for. I spent most of my youth living in Negril, and the people were more than just family. With where greed and corruption is right now in this world, I can only assume that the wealthy will take complete advantage of the aftermath, and I never want to see Jamaica change into their playground. Support the right way. Volunteer if you can. Demand transparency if you can't. And make sure your help uplifts the people and the culture.

Hurrican Ian in 2022 rolled over me..the eye went right over my house. It lasted 40 hours..and we were physically so effected..we couldnt think, we couldnt talk, we coudnt stand up..the pressure made us dizzy af and the sound of the wind was hellish..the screams, howls, high piecing sirens and roars like a train over head and the thunder and lightning was greenish blue and it was on of the most harrowing expiences of my life and i went through hurricane charley in 2004 sending positive love and light to Jamaica
