Description

The best size estimate yet for Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS has been calculated based on post-perihelion Hubble Imagery, and this new data paired with the information we have on 1I/'Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov provides us a rough estimate of how frequently interstellar objects visit the Solar System. The number may surprise you! Geophysicist Stefan Burns with the latest on 3I/ATLAS and our space environment... I remember about 1977 looking up at the stars, waiting for the sun to come up on an elk hunt in the Bob Marshall wilderness. My dad and I noticed a star moving opposite of everything else. At one point it zig zagged and I asked my dad was that a ufo? Everything since then I always looked up. There is alot out there and its better than looking down at a phone.

Hey guys! One interesting thing I've been thinking about is the rapid growth of this sunspot cluster 4366. We've seen similar activity when comets or for 1I/'Oumuamua was close to the Sun, perrrhaps we had/have an unknown object close to the Sun along the original angle direction of 4366 that helped fuel the rapid expansion of that solar flux. Let's just say that if we happen to find a comet or even interstellar object (ISO) around that area soon I won't be surprised!

3I Atlas has given us more information to add to our limited knowledge of our solar system as well as the Universe. Learning is a part of life. Thanks, Stefan, for your input.
