Not a language. A format.
So... this was a rant, and not actually proposing anything.
LaTex (or similar like typst) and Markdown are totally two different levels. I would never write a physics paper in Markdown, but I would not write .md in LaTex.

Actually, markdown is a high level programming language that can be compiled by Claude.
Markdown is ideal b/c it doesn't require an app to interpret. You don't need a browser, you don't need a special app. You can just look at the text as a human and read it. Markdown is limited in what it can do, and that's the point. HTML is completely unlimited. "A new markdown alternative" that meets all your rendering needs is going to be HTML. Markdown doesn't need replacing. As with everything in software engineering, we just need to choose the right tool for the right job.
People forgetting AsciiDoc existed before Markdown.
