Anthropic, Bun, Claude They following the alphabet
Give it a year or so, then they'll do the standard corp thing of "We have updated the TOS for this project" when they think nobody is looking.
Bun was making $0 in revenue, got acquired by a company not making a profit, so the same question remains: "How does Bun make money?"
What makes me worried is the bubble that AI is in is going to pop at some point, and when it does, all the excess projects will be axed. When that happens, bun may draw the short straw. Edit: ok so this video has quelled my fears significantly, but I'm still gonna try and keep my projects node-compatible just in case.
I like how major point is "we don't have to think about money anymore" because they are part of an AI company now and nobody expects AI companies to make money
Don't overthink it, they did it just to piss you off
Can't wait for Bun to refuse installing a package it deems inappropriate by Jan Leike's standards
The acquisition is just risk management. Anthropic has no interest to improve the typescript ecosystem. They just want their native bundler to be around im 5 years. If things get hard everything Bun is supposed to be will be cut out of the roadmap and it's in maintenance.
I like how they acknowledge Oven is/was a VC-backed startup with $0 in revenue. The only paths forward were build another Deno Deploy, go bankrupt and maybe get picked up by a community like Rome (now Biome), or acquisition. This seems reasonable.
Ah yes... AI slop + JS runtime is a combination I've always wanted to see. Safety first!
