Not to be a doomer, but as someone who is from a country that overthrew their tyrant, things can absolutely get worse. I pray that’s not the case for Syria, whose population has been through enough as it is.

To be fair, the statue thing wouldn't be so much of a tradition, if dictators were not so prone to making statues of themselves.

As a Syrian, I have never thought I would live to hear these words in my favorite show from Jon Stewart mouth. Thank you, John, for being honest to our cause as Syrian people

Statues not actually being made of much is a nice metaphor for dictatorships. They look intimidating, but when it happens, you see the regime was weak at the knees.

Dear John, you probably don’t read these. I’m a Syrian who was forced out of Syria by Assad’s government in summer of 2012. My family moved to the US and I remember having terrible PTSD. depression and insomnia back then and watching your show to feel a little less horrible. Your analyses would make me laugh so much I’d finally feel at peace enough to maybe sleep. Thank you for the work you do. A lot has changed in the last 12 years, but Assad never stopped being a mass murdered and hellbent on destroying any dream we had of safety and liberty. We know the next days, years will be difficult but we deserve a chance to rebuild. Thank you John and your great team!
