Description

Grammy-nominated artist Fat Joe joins Michael Kosta to talk about his advocacy for transparent healthcare pricing with the organization Power to the Patients and the 250-pound weight loss journey that he says was easier than trying to get a law passed in Congress. He also shares his mission to inspire positivity with his new Starz series “Fat Joe Talks” and boils down the presidential election to one question: “Are you man enough to vote for a woman?” #DailyShow #FatJoe #MichaelKosta Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. Why doesn't the richest nation have universal healthcare like the rest of the civilised world?

I was there for 15 minutes, they charged me 800 dlls. As a non-USA resident, never got re-imbursed even though I had insurance. Healthcare should not be an opportunity to steal from people.

I did some graduate study in Germany. I had to purchase health insurance while there. It cost less than what I paid when I had an employer picking up half the cost. When I got an ear ache, I walked into a private doctors office. I was seen in about 30 minutes. They charged me (before insurance) less than what my co-pay would have been for a regular physician visit in the U.S. They mildly chastised me that next time I had an issue, to give them a call in the morning before I came in. Not schedule for weeks out, but for later in the day. Germany has private healthcare providers and even private insurance companies. Of course they have private manufacturers and drug companies - they make much of the equipment we use in the U.S. They are a very capitalist nation. But they have a system of publicly funding healthcare for everyone.

I had a recent doctor's appointment. The office billed my insurance company $900. I was there for 15 minutes for a consultation. All that happened was I was asked questions and got some answers for my issue. No procedures were done, no one even touched me except to take my blood pressure. Eventually my insurance company paid them only about $100. Transparency is absolutely necessary because these people are literally robbing us.

I had a similar experience as Far Joe a few years ago. I was in a skilled nursing facility. Which was at the edge of a small farming community. And this was in the early days of COVID-19. We were not allowed out of the building except for medical appointments. And we only had what the staff prepared for us. I ended up losing 250 pounds. Then some time later I moved back to the capital, which was my home town. To an assisted living facility. I was able to go out to the store eventually. But I don't put any weight back on. Some time before I left there to a retirement community. My doctor told me that my A1C was normal. And it remained below 7 since then.

As a kid growing up in the UK. I'd watch Malcom in the middle and was very confused about the parents fear of the hospital. It wasn't until I was a bit older that I realised how absolutely f'ed up the system is there... Poorer families have no chance. NONE.
