Putin-Trump call. High stakes and great risks for both leaders

I am Russian living abroad for 25 years. When I occasionally meet ukrainians here, I am always puzzled with the fact that their hatred is not against Russia or Putin. They hate each other, east Ukraine against West and vice versa. Ukrainian entrepreneurs here cannot peacefully co-exist with other ukrainian competitors, they would make an effort to drown them. This goes to the root cause of the conflict - nazi psychology that originated in Ukraine. It resulted in a civil war (not a word in western media) and subsequently - in a Russian special military operation.

The root cause of the conflict is that the EU and Ukraine aren't democracies. The common citizens of Ukraine and the EU don't want war.

Putin has always stated Russia was willing to work with Ukraine for a working peace deal. The problem was that Selenksy under US/Western orders, kept refusing to co-operate.

I have a theory about why is Putin making such an effort and it has nothing to do with US. It goes back to the beginning of Trump's 2. presidency after one of the first calls between them. And Trump said about Putin that he: cares a lot about Ukraine, it's the apple of his eye." I think that people are forgetting the human factor about this war. These people were once one country, one nation and they have a lot of relatives on the other side, they used to visit one another. Hell, once upon time it was given that on Eurovision Ukraine and Russia will give each other 12 points, just like Greece and Cyprus. Putin doesn't want to destroy Ukraine, he hates what has become of it, he hates that there are billboards in Kiev with Nazi messages, bars with swastikas and hatred for their culture. This is the true tragedy of Ukraine, not the damn war: it's the fact that foreign element managed to make it hate its history and culture and thus, made it into a vassal country.
