Description

Sentencing Stream: https://youtube.com/live/vBu-Wmzai48 Closing Arguments: https://youtube.com/live/anwv7OE8qAg Sarah Boone is on trial for one count of Second Degree Murder for the killing of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres. She left him zipped in a suitcase despite his pleas for help. Boone is asserting self-defense and turned down a plea deal for a lesser charge of Manslaughter with a 15-year sentence shortly before trial. Boone has been in custody since February 2020, when this happened, and went through 8 state-appointed attorneys before the Judge determined that she must represent herself. At the end of August 2024, less than 45 days before trial, her current lawyers parachuted in and volunteered to take the case. The court denied their request for continuance because they took the case, knowing it would go to trial in early October. Jury selection began on October 14, 2024, after a short delay due to Hurricane Milton. The deliberating jury for second-degree murder in Florida is composed of six jurors. Brian, her ex-husband now doesn't have to pay alimony anymore now! The family court judge said he didn't have to pay if she was convicted of murder. He had him put it in an account waiting for the outcome. Sarah's letters to that were horrendous! Also Brian wanted to move out of state for his son's protection He just won his whole case!

I cannot wait to hear the judge address her at sentencing. I imagine he's exhausted by her

No surprise about the verdict. Let's give the judge his props. He treated Sarah Boone with respect, even when most people's instincts would have dictated otherwise. While I'm sure that was partly to avoid ever having to deal with this case again, his demeanor was always professional.

All she had to do was open that suitcase. Now she has to spend 22 years.

The video that Sarah filmed of Jorge rehearsing what he would say in court to get her DV charges dropped reminds me so much of a hostage/ransom situation. I feel like that one had such a big impact on how the Jury could have viewed the case because it makes me sick to my stomach. I will be so glad when sentencing is over so the family can have peace.

The dead don't speak through mediums, they speak through prosecutors.

The jury got it right. This trial, while very hard to watch at times, was refreshing from a legal standpoint- the judge was excellent, the attorneys on both sides managed themselves professionally, etc. After watching so much nonsense in the Murdoch and Reed trials, this was nice to see. RIP to Jorge.
