Theatre student here to add a couple of things: a) Hamilton is not yet available for anyone to license yet so it is not a matter of them not paying the fee at issue, they weren’t allowed to do it at all (notice in the statement they say that “there are lawful avenues to obtain a license to stage properties” but not to Hamilton itself) so I imagine the settlement payment may be greater than what a licensing fee will be when available b) Yes, anyone performing a show publicly needs to license that show from a company (MTI being the most common for musicals) with an agreement for the number of performances AND if they make any changes to the show, these need to be approved by the creator (or their representatives) in advance of the performance (unless it’s public domain of course) - this latter thing I have seen MANY theatres push the boundary of changes to the script and depending on the scale of your production and size of the changes (and temperament of the creator) they will often get away with it but it is a dangerous line to walk (we had a long discussion about this in my Ethics of Theatre Management class)
_"Hamilton_ Donates Damages Paid by Texas Church for Unauthorized Production to Gay Rights Organization" is the biggest FU and I'm loving it 😩👌
Emily will you cover the Turpin children suing riverside county? And the foster care system they were in?
As a retired RN of over 30 years find the 1st Responders behaviour abhorrent ! We used to 'lay out' people who had died [prepare the body] before they left the ward. It includes washing them and I used to talk to my deceased patient while working, telling them I would roll them over etc. - it was for their dignity and so that no one within earshot could be offended or hurt by realising that there was a deceased person right there. How they could destroy people's dignity after death like that is anathema to me.
I’m a dark, twisted person. I’ve worked as an EMT and in mental health facilities. I’ve been attacked. Seen people die. And done CPR until I was dripping sweat, only to never get them back. It’s a coping mechanism. It’s not really socially acceptable and I keep it under wraps for the most part. But I’m super dark. And even I would never, NEVER take pictures of the deceased for any reason other than as evidence. And I’d surely never share them. Hell, I HAVE seen horrific events. I’ve never taken those sorts of pictures. But I can tell you I’ve gone to therapy to deal with the crap I’ve seen and cried myself to sleep many a time.
Musical theatre director here. Yes we have to purchase rights for every show no matter in the community or in schools. There could be some free shows out there but its definitely not going to be popular named shows that are free. As a private voice teacher there are rules for having recitals too as well as streaming. Fhew its a whole thing.
If there is a culture of taking and sharing photos of victims of crime then that is not only a failure of policy but a critical failure of leadership. Leadership of these departments should be held accountable for the culture they allow and foster.
I was the bookkeeper for a High school. Yes they apply for and pay for performance of plays. They pay per performance and on the application they have to disclose dates and times of performances and how many people are estimated to attend.
“I treat people like people.” That is my answer when people from different walks of life thank me for being kind and non-judge mental in my work as a nurse practitioner. I’ve done so many things in healthcare, including detox and psych. That’s when I would get it the most, and it’s a sad testimony to how many times that person has been treated like an other by the very people that should be caring for them.
I envision a day where every single thing is accessible to every single being. I became disabled 6 years ago. It's opened my eyes to SOOOO much! You can't completely understand until you experience a shift in how your human abilities change.
