I know we really only hear about conservatorships when they go wrong, but I'm starting to feel like they are way too easy to abuse.
Yep, it is so disgusting that the conservative clause is being abused IMO. If the conservatee is not able to take care of themselves, then they shouldn’t be able to work to make money for the conservators! So upsetting to hear.
I have been avoiding this one. It hurts my heart to think he was taken advantage of. But I think if Emily tells me about it, I can handle it
I met my daughter when she was 4. Due to circumstances we were unable to adopt her. We finally got to last year. She was 35.
A dozen years or so ago, I was having a conversation with a former attorney who had practiced in TN for decades. I was telling him about "The Blind Side" and how much I enjoyed it, when he responded that a lot of it was made up. I know that the phrase "based on a true story" gives quite a bit of latitude in screenwriting. However, he said he knew the Tuohys, especially the father, and didn't think highly of them. In fact, he said at the time that he didn't believe they did anything for altruistic reasons, and hinted they had other motives than the movie portrayed. I thought at the time my acquaintance was being unnecessarily negative, but now I believe he was speaking the truth.
If it was unconditional love, they wouldn’t now be saying they loved him in past tense. They would continue to love him, as that is the literal definition of unconditional.
If the family genuinely believed this made him part of their family, then they shouldn't be fighting him, but suing the people who wrongly advised them.
Also, if Micheal had tried a 'shakedown' many times, why didn't they end the conservatorship on many of those alleged occasions??
Someone needs to explore the relationship between the Tuohy's and the Judge.
