Description

Workers at Starbucks announced a nationwide barista strike on Red Cup Day, with thousands of workers demanding better staffing levels, higher wages, and enough hours to qualify for benefits many currently supplement with SNAP and Medicaid. Guest host Chris Keene points out that while Starbucks workers struggle with low pay and inconsistent scheduling, CEO Brian Niccol earned nearly $100 million last year, giving Starbucks the worst CEO-to-worker pay ratio in the S&P 500. Chris and Jimmy emphasize how understaffing harms both customers and employees, and argue that Starbucks clearly has the money to improve conditions but chooses instead to invest in executive compensation and perks. Keene concludes that extreme inequality and corporate neglect are fueling public frustration and driving voters toward anti-establishment political choices. The worst cup of coffee with a strange cult following. Corporate coffee is gross. Tourists will take a $60.00 taxi ride just to buy a Starbucks collector cup in my town. They aren't going for the drink, they want the stupid cup. If you want a good cup of coffee in Juneau I say Flying Squirrel. They aren't unionized, but the barristas work there for years, drive nice cars, have families, and own homes... Because they sell a great product, and provide excellent customer service.

If there's ever a job that doesn't want the public to know how we'd do without them, it's a Starbucks employee... without someone directly telling me I'd never in a million years notice if they closed all of them

Haven't been to a Starbucks since 2019 and I am never going back honestly speaking. If I go to a cafe, it's usually a local one with no franchise.
