I don't know if people understand how incredibly rare it is to get Joaquin Phoenix to do an interview, let alone an hour long interview. This is phenomenal
Nothing makes an awkward, slightly messed up artist feel more comfortable than discovering that the person interviewing them is also an awkward, slightly messed up artist.
Is the sentence "Its rare to see a work of art and then get to talk to the paint" the most low-key brilliant thing Theo has ever said?
The interview starts off with "two kids meeting on the playground for the first time" energy, and it's kind of endearing. Idk how else to explain it.
You can tell that Joaquin realized early how authentic and sincere Theo is. Then decided to give Theo an awesome interview as a thank you.
This is the first time he's talked about River in public in decades, for most of his interviews River is off-limits. The fact he brought up River himself is the fact Theo made him feel comfortable.
Joaquin paused like, “shit this dude is a real person” and you can see it on his face. Looked almost like relief
Next, he's gonna get Cillian Murphy to sit down and casually chat with him for an hour...
Bottom line, you can tell that Joaquin just genuinely likes and gets Theo.
When one is socially awkward and the other is awkwardly social
