Apple Introduces The Year Of The Linux Desktop!
The Year of the Linux Desktop: Developer Exodus from Windows and Mac Failures
Stop enduring slow, intrusive operating systems; discover why poor UX moves on Windows and Apple now makes Linux the superior choice for developers.
Short Summary
- Microsoft is aggressively eliminating local accounts and pushing required services like Live accounts and subscription prompts.
- Apple is delivering visibly shoddy software experiences, exemplified by resource-heavy, poorly aligned new applications.
- Optimized Linux distributions, such as Omachi, offer superior customization, speed, and performance for developers willing to switch. This overview analyzes the perceived degradation of Windows and macOS usability, positioning Linux as the necessary upgrade path for discerning developers who value control over their environment.

Microsoft talks about creating a local user account like it's some kind of security exploit
"a device that is not fully configured to use" means you're not signed into OneDrive.
Made the switch in late June and I hate it. The system boots in like 7 seconds. I have absolutely no time to go grab my morning coffee before I sit down with that little time. It shuts down immediately. I don't get ads offering me Linux Office 365. How am I going to edit my documents? I don't get offered to use TwoDrive to store my data in the sky. I don't have a LinuxPilot assistant collecting data on me so it can be trained to sell me things it thinks I want. Now I will probably not get ads at all. How will I know what to buy? I don't trust this gaming situtation where every game I try just works. Something's up with that. I think it's some sort of blood magic. I can fully create my own desktop entirely from scratch with a bit of elbow grease and Quickshell. That is just too much freedom. Too much control. My popcorn-kernel sized brain can't handle this. This is awful.
Have no fear... they are too incompetent to remove all the methods! I already designed 2 new methods of bypassing the online accounts. I made one public, but holding one back just in case they try to "plug" that hole.
Yeah skipping the critical screens that force telemetry and bloatware on you...
I put my mom on Mint years ago, and when she bought a new PC, she wiped Windows and put Mint on it. She's 80 this year. Linux is for everyone
It's not _just_ ads, it's also data collection and AI training. Read the ToS for Win11, OneDrive, Office 365, etc.
10:07 If your mum has 9000 tabs open and just uses chrome, there's a non zero chance that she won't notice the difference between linux and windows
my mother is on linux mint. she likes that it doesn't change things without her asking it to. she does the updates as part of her weekly cleaning
Ads on the operating system should be illegal
