Description

I sat down with Nick Eberstadt, an American political economic, to talk about the numbers—and somewhere along the way, the numbers started talking back. For years, we’ve been told the biggest threat to humanity is overpopulation. Too many people and not enough resources. Turns out…that might be exactly backwards. Birth rates are falling, families are shrinking, and much of the world is already below replacement level. At the same time, we’ve never been richer, safer, or more comfortable—and yet, somehow, more disconnected and more miserable. Millions of working-age men have simply checked out. Not working and not looking for work. And the metrics we trust? They’re missing from most of it. Nick and I get into the collapse nobody’s really talking about, the rise of what Nick calls “the new misery,” and why the future of work might belong to welders before coders. It sounds dark. Sometimes it is. But if history’s any guide, we’ve been here before—and betting against America has never been a great strategy. The question is…are we paying attention to the right arithmetic? Men were also pushed out of the workforce. Setting aside automation. There are many other government policies that mostly hurt male employment and career advancement. Mass migration, affirmative action, DEI, female leadership programs, female jobs programs, female specific welfare, female specific scholarships, female specific career development programs, #metoo, disparate impact lawsuits, HR-ification, the EEOC, weaponized sexual harassment policies, and more.

I would dispute that current kids are the best educated and healthiest in history. More likely the most indoctrinated, most obese, most allergic, least attention span etc. We have collectively failed them.

I see fraud fraud fraud every day on the internet and nobody ever gets in trouble. So yes my optimism is greatly diminished. It feels hopeless.

My husband retired early first because of his back but also more importantly because the do nothings and never had done anythings were the ones who showed up at the board meetings and helped dictate policy that directly affected his job and the overall performance of the department. The fallout was two fold, made the job harder, and the satisfaction of the public increasingly diminished. So harder work, less or no praise, and more complaints.

Bring back blue collar jobs to America. Have more trade programs in schools. Stop punishing men in the workforce with discriminatory dei policies.

Working 84 hours a week and getting a check lite three days 36 hours is a red flag. The taxes are crazy for the working man

I’m 72 and hoping that I live far enough in the countryside to be able to live my life in peace. So far the craziest behavior hasn’t gotten here yet. I worked my whole life for my meager possessions and don’t owe anything to society. Take care.

The problem is that everyone wants someone who has a piece of paper instead of someone who can do the job
