Got a pretty good Mother’s Day tale that occurred yesterday. While working on the chicken coop construction with my husband, I was punched in the face by a roll of hardware cloth eager to return to shape. It poked 7 delicate holes in my nose and eyelid; completely missing anything vital. Ten minutes after cleaning myself up and returning to work, my six and four year olds came running to get me with the two year old on their heels. “Peanut is dead!” “Loxley did it!” Our two year old had been playing with her newest chick and played a bit too hard. The lifeless ball of fluff was deposited into my hand and wails and tears erupted. As the toddler realized what she had done and that Peanut would never come back from her grave in the backyard, she cried even harder. It was heartbreaking. After the chicken funeral, my husband and I continued working and I asked “what do you call it when you get holes punched in your face and your two year old kills a baby chick?” Without missing a beat, he replied “Mother’s Day.” It was indeed a memorable Mother’s Day. ❤

America's Grandmother has spoken (written actually) and the voice of America (Mike Rowe) has read the story. All is well with the world.
