Description

Brian Greene sits down with theoretical physicist Raphael Bousso to explore some of the deepest puzzles in modern physics. Their conversation centers on the black hole information paradox, one of the most important challenges in theoretical physics. If quantum mechanics says information can never be destroyed, how can black holes, once thought to erase everything that falls into them, be reconciled with that principle? Bousso discusses recent ideas suggesting that black holes may return information to the universe, raising the possibility that the smooth event horizon predicted by general relativity may give way to new physics such as “firewalls.” Along the way, Greene and Bousso reflect on how physicists think about theory, evidence, and discovery. The discussion also touches on the multiverse, the limits of current experiments, and how artificial intelligence may influence the future of scientific research. This conversation offers a window into the frontier of modern physics, where black holes, quantum theory, and gravity converge in the search for a deeper understanding of the universe. This program is part of the Rethinking Reality series, supported by the John Templeton Foundation. Through long- and short-form videos spanning physics, cosmology, quantum mechanics, biology, neuroscience, consciousness, medicine, space exploration, the dilemma of free will, artificial intelligence, engineering, robotics, and beyond. WSF gathers world-renowned scientists, artists, and thinkers for dynamic discussions, debates, lectures, performances, films, and immersive live experiences. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in New York City, the World Science Festival is a production of the World Science Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to cultivate a public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future. With live events reaching millions worldwide and hundreds of millions of digital views, WSF continues to expand its global impact through festivals, educational initiatives like World Science U, and digital content that explores the near and far future of our world. Dr.Greene Thank you soooo much for this video. I have been checking the WSF site everyday for new content, I am very happy that is not only once a year any more, like the old WSF events. It is hard to make these programs and we beg you to continue the great job and give us more of this. R.Bousso is my favorite physicist, he is fantastic. I will be watching this about 10 more times until your next one. Thank you!!
