The 'elite' was able to kick the can down the road for so long, to push it so far without any repercussions that they have become arrogant. Their hubris will be their downfall. The US system is so deeply rotten (something people knew and those that didn't should now given the Epstein files) that a deep cleansing is in order. How that cleansing manifests itself remains to be seen, but I would not bet on it happening peacefully.
