Live Nation/Ticketmaster Pricing Under Fire: Analyzing CEO Justification
Uncover why concert ticket prices are spiraling out of control and evaluate the CEO's controversial claim that music is currently underpriced.
Short Summary
- Concert ticket costs have surged due to Live Nation/Ticketmaster's market monopoly, pricing out dedicated fans.
- The CEO justifies price hikes by comparing them to expensive sports tickets and citing music's low non-tour revenue streams for artists.
- The merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster is identified as the single most disastrous event for live show affordability. This discussion dissects the defense of rising ticket costs presented by the Live Nation CEO, contrasting it with the lived experience of concertgoers and the financial reality supporting touring musicians.

Using an $800 Beyonce ticket for an example to prove how tickets are underpriced is an insane lack of awareness I could never even begin to understand...
Ticketmaster sounds like a cheesy villain name fits
Fun fact: Pearl Jam tried to sue Ticketmaster and get it boycotted, and they were so open about hating Ticketmaster that it was almost impossible for them to get gigs due to the fact that they couldn’t get venues because most of them were scared of Ticketmaster. They basically lost a ton of money trying and failing to boycott Ticketmaster.
"badge of honor to spend 70 grand" what a load of barnacles wtf
Mind you, he said that artists make 98% of their money from ticket sales. That does not mean that the artist gets 98% of every ticket sold. Ticket master is getting most of the money. If an artist makes $100 a year. $98 dollars came from ticket sales. That’s all that means
What really gets my goat is how useless the box offices are at stadiums now. I once went to a hockey game with my dad. It was a last minute plan, so the plan was to buy tickets the arena. The "ticket seller" literally just told us to buy the tickets on ticketmaster. The markup was 150%. What even is the point of a box office now?
Foo Fighters right now are doing "mini tour" with small shows without ticketmaster and tickets are 30$
“People can’t live without water. So we should charge 1M$ a litre”- a deranged CEO somewhere
3:33 the exact moment Charlie clicks into a *dookie based PTSD episode*
I went to OzzFest back in the day; Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth, Danzig, Slayer, Judas Priest, tool, Dokken, Dio, Type O Neg, Malmstein, etc. etc.. All for $60 per DAY, all day and evening, for 3 days, and it was relatively organized, with working sh-tters, stocked vendors (who weren't charging obscene amounts), and 99% of the fans were respectful and just happy to be there. Those days are gone forever, I guess.
