Congestive Heart Failure is number one reason. You won't know you have it unless you get specific heart imaging (not the enzyme tests which can say your heart is fine when its not). Lost my best friends mom to it a few weeks ago. She weighs 120 lbs her whole life and before she died she weighed 170! That's how much fluid her body retained. She got it after the booster shot

My mother used to take her 'water pills' and often in a few days she would call me to take her to the hospital because she was so weak she couldn't stand. I would tell her she needed potassium (I knew from experience)... Of course, she wanted to hear a doctor say it so we went to the emergency room and they always gave her potassium plus lots of tests. One thing to remember is that low potassium can also cause muscle spasms/cramps and the heart IS a muscle. Several times she thought she was having a heart attack, and she NEVER had one in 92 years! It was always potassium- not that they always told us that, but she always had a bag of potassium on her IV. I bought her potassium and I told her she needed 3 or 4 several times a day, but she said they upset her stomach... God, I miss her❣ So much.🙏🏻

My husband’s feet started to get swollen right after he was treated with steroids. Doctors never gave a reason of why . Now I understand.

I had edema in my left leg. It started in my foot then up to the knee and then above the knee. The doctor gave me water tablets. They did nothing. The leg got bigger. I took myself to A&E. I had a scan on the leg and on lower stomach. The leg was full of fluid. Also more importantly my bladder wasn't emptying and was retaining a large amount of fluid, urine, which was backing up into my kidneys. I had an enlarged prostate. This was causing the bladder not to empty. The enlarged bladder was pressing on the proximal veins in the upper leg causing the fluid retention. I was admitted to the hospital there and then. One and a half litres of urine was emptied from my bladder. I never felt any discomfort with my stomach, just my very swollen leg. I was in hospital for 4 days. My leg returned to near normal size after a week. Am now awaiting an op. on my prostate to reduce its size. Also taking Finasteride tablets to reduce the size of prostate. So beware, this can cause edema. I'm 85 and never had anything like this before. I'm active for my age, do gardening, walking a mile or so, do jobs for the neighbours, go on holidays abroad 4 times a year.
