They blocked Telegram for this same reason for a while, then they rolled back because guess what, the judge had no idea what Telegram was
Imagine how fun it is being a Spaniard and working at a startup where our main infra target is Cloudflare :D
Cool. So my car got stolen and the thieve escaped over public road. So block all of them. How stupid.
This is wild. As with most rulings like this, the people watching illegal streams will continue to do so via VPN, and the rest of the public suffers the consequences of the terrible ruling.
wait until you hear here in Algeria , they cut the whole internet during a week because of baccalauréat exams every year since few years now
17:09 we’re outraged. LaLiga has been blocking a lot of websites for over a month now and Javier Tebas (LaLiga’s president) is complaining about Cloudflare hosting CSAM (but ofc he will only block when there’s a soccer match; he doesn’t really care about children) i’m really tired of not being able to use the internet freely. After all, i think LaLiga has won against cloudflare and they said they were going to continue blocking.
I'ts not even the Spanish government. It's a private company (LaLiga) who is ordering these blocks to the ISPs directly. A court ruled in their favor some time ago before cloudflare implemented some kind of privacy improvement in their infra (I don't exactly know the details). At the time it was considered that blocking certain IPs was not harmful to other sites. Now ISPs have to comply and affected companies have to push hard enough and file lawsuits againts LaLiga to try to get the ruling reverted. Sure spanish government is not helping but that's the smallest of our problems with them. The intent of LaLiga is to "stop piracy" but it's 100% the stupidest move. Ips are only being blocked from spain so just using a VPN avoids all the issues. A subscription for wathing all the football is about 120€, and a VNP subscription is 10€. There's not a single world in which the people that pirate their content are going to stop doing it for that price difference.
The same thing happend in Italy some month ago, some Google IPs have been blocked for around 12h because of a football match. Basically, there are some people that can just decide what to block and what not during a match and if they fail nothing happen.
This almost already happened in brazil too, judges go mad for something, threat to block literally the entire internet, shutdown social networks, etc, just because in most cases: of their ego.
Italy is literally in the same situation, last year they ended up blocking Google Drive 🤦♂️
