Just think about it: If Leia had ever met Obi Wan, the message for R2D2 would be like: "..Hey uncle Obi I am in deep shit, I really need help" instead of: "..General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him..."

The scene were Obi doesn't just walk around the laser gate reminds me of the scene in Blazing Saddles with the toll gate in the middle of nowhere.
