Calcium is essential for the absorption of vitamin B12, as ionic calcium helps the B12-intrinsic factor complex attach to ileal cell receptors. Adequate calcium can reverse B12 malabsorption caused by metformin or gastric acid inhibitors. Conversely, low B12 can affect bone density, highlighting a symbiotic relationship. Key Interactions and Relationships: Absorption Mechanism: Ionic calcium is required for the absorption of vitamin B12 in the terminal ileum. B12 deficiency by interfering with this calcium-dependent process. Oral calcium supplementation can reverse this effect. Gastric Acid Inhibitors: These medications can cause B12 deficiency, but taking calcium supplements may mitigate this risk. Bone Health: Vitamin B12 is associated with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC), playing a role in osteoblast activity.
I enjoyed this talk. I am currently eating my way through New Zealand. Every night I have eaten a ribeye or fresh fish. My hubby and I are easily navigating the stress of traveling at age 73. We both have such consistent energy all day long. Carnivore is the way!
Carnivore keeps me amazingly healthy. Canβt remember the last I was under the weather. Thx for these messages. ππ
Super interesting, especially the testosterone conversation. Thank you both!
I thought being WFPB vegan was good for me for decades and obviously it was not! Placebo effect only lasts for so long. So Iβm not in agreement with thoughts for or against your beliefs allowing things to be good or bad for your health. I love your sewage example Dr Chaffee. Thank you!
Always a plesure to listen you!
Thank you both for this wonderful conversation β€οΈ
Thanks Doc! Carnivore FTW!
Iβm really into meyers briggs personally typing. I am an INFP and I totally bet Jen is an INFP because we love learning about people and personalities. Itβs so fun to learn about how different people tick! I really enjoyed listening to you guys chat!
Just ate bacon, eggs, and decaf buttered coffee (with iodine) for breakfast. Waking fasting blood glucose and ketones were 99 and 0.9 respectively. Iβm 59yo female with 30 pounds to lose and stuck. Trying some different things.
