Federal officials on Friday arrested Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka following a tense confrontation at a newly opened immigration detention facility set to be a key part of President Trump’s mass deportation agenda. Baraka, a Democrat and current candidate for New Jersey governor, was charged with trespassing and taken to a separate ICE facility in Newark. He was released after roughly five hours to a crowd of more than 200 supporters, which had swelled throughout the afternoon and included prominent labor leaders and New York City mayoral hopefuls.
