EMT here. And working in healthcare 100% shifted my opinion of this. I used to believe life needed to be preserved because it was sacred. And I sympathize if people still feel that way. But there are a million fates worse than death. I've witnessed them. People who will never know a comfortable breath and a moment of peace as long as they live. They have no hope of improvement and every assurance of deterioration. Depending on how I face the end, my wife and friends know to send me somewhere I can choose to end it all. And if I'm not afforded that opportunity legally, I know I'll be ready to make a rough choice. A well regulated, well informed, and effective right die is necessary for people right now. If you disagree, see their everyday suffering and tell them they're wrong to want it to end. We're kinder to our sick and dying pets than we are to our own parents, grandparents, and other loved ones.
Saagar tries to act like a libertarian but then opposes every libertarian policy anyone puts forth
Oregon was the first state to legalize assisted suicide, almost 30 years ago, and the criteria have never been widened beyond terminal patients with less than six months expected.
Saagar completely missing the point once again and Krystal constantly has to remind him
Saagar, "if you are poor and depressed you should suffer to the end." Also Saagar, no government handouts.
You're not living free if you can't choose to stop living
I dont understand how anyone can oppose this. Forcing someone who doesnt want to live to suffer through the last days of their life is torture.
Nurse here. I don’t think anyone can really have a sensible stance on this topic without stepping foot in an ICU or Long-term acute care facility. I felt like I had an opinion on the matter before being a nurse but it was completely out of touch with the reality of what is happening now in the United States.
I wish they had realized Oregon has had an assisted suicide law going on for decades, with no problems. Same structure as the UK bill. There has been no slippery slope here, over decades.
Let's be honest, this is the only way to plan for retirement.
