Let us know your thoughts on the film.
If you say Heavy Spoilers five times in front of the mirror, Paul shows up and gives a sick pun.
Tony Todd and his voice in the original was legit scary. Plus he actually had real 🐝 on him and in his mouth during the original scenes in the 1st Candyman Dedicated and talented actor!
The young boy’s reflection in the cop car, as part of candyman, represented George Stinney not Emmett Till. George (age 14) was unjustly executed by the state of South Carolina in 1944.
The little boy candyman represents George Stinney Jr who was a 11 year old boy wrongfully accused and executed by an all white jury being the youngest person executed in the country. The other candyman that was taken from his home and dragged from a truck represents James Byrd Jr. an Black man who was murdered by white supremacist in Texas where he was dragged for 3 miles from their pickup truck. The movie was brilliant to foreshadow these tragedies that have been overlooked by mass media as if it never happened.
I feel like candyman represents the darkness/vengeance that dwells in everyone that gets beaten down (physically and/or emotionally) by society and when one can't take it anymore, he gets unleashed. *That's how i interpret it anyway*
I feel like the only thing wrong with the film was not enough development with Breanna and Anthony's relationship with his mother, and William Burke's main reason why he wanted to turn Candyman from a thing of black pain to vengeance. Also wish it had more slasher elements like the first. Was shot well and the score was really good. And i wish we had more Tony but i get it.. that's a hard torch to carry and we didn't want to compare Candyman's so this was done well
I always love how self-aware you are about handling unique and foreign topics such as racial tension, identify, and generational trauma. Most people either ignore this completely out of fear of getting something wrong or they don't care. You genuinely do your research and ask for feedback and additional insight. I wish more Americans would be as open minded as you.
Let's just be honest here. We all wanted Tony Todd to be the main star of this movie as he had been in the other three versions. Tony is a legend and that spooky yet mellifluous voice and regal presence he has is just something that the other actors cannot duplicate.
They can make a part 2 for this . So much potential for the franchise overall ..loved the 2021 candyman . Modern classic ..
