Alexander Ovechkin Does "The Impossible," Breaks Wayne Gretzky's All Time Goals Record

Ovie has the biggest heart. My friend jason abramowitz (RIP best buddy) met ovie his rookie year. He couldnt yet speak english and had a translator. Met him after a game in the dressing room. My friend was a victim of duchennes muscular dystrophy. Takes most young boys to God before the age of 20. Jason was red faced and speechless. Bondra was jason's hero before we loved ovie before he was drafted. Ovechkin put out his hand with his goofy smile.. but jason couldn't move his arm. Ovie looked very confused. He asked his translator why Jason wouldn't shake his hand. We told him that he can't. He's dying and won't be around long. Ovechkin suddenly was stricken with concern. He asked if there was any hope or a cure. We said no. And we all got lumps in our throats. Ovie's eyes welled up with tears and he leaned over and hugged jason. Rubbed his head like you would a dog. Gave jason his jersey he was wearing. A puck. And ted leonsis was there , thats who introduced us. Ted told alex that jason played wheelchair hockey in maryland. Alex looked.. asked "how"? Lol . We explained we secure hockey sticks to the wheelchair. After some back and forth, ovechkin committed to sponsoring his wheelchair hockey league. Ted leonsis matched his donation. They sponsored tournaments in canada afterwards. Ovie is jason's hero. The things ovie did for disabled and dying kids was so awesome. As a rookie who hadn't done anything but scored 2 goals in that first game and disabled the glass with an opposing player on the home opener that day 😂 God bless you ovie You are an AWESOME human. Jason is cheering you on and celebrating in heaven. Im so glad ovie wasn't banned from the nhl, as was pushed during Russia's SMO

Ovi has one more year remaining on his contract with the Capitals. He has already said that after the contract is up, he will finish his playing career over in the KHL in Russia to be closer to all of his family.

Gretzky is doing just fine, guys, he has plenty of other records, some of which are practically untouchable.

I get these guys are pretty casual fans of hockey, but Pat was way too confident when he said Ovi reaching 1000 goals is inevitable if he chooses to play another season. Ovi is a beast, but I don’t think he scores 100 goals in a season 😅

I'm not a hokey guy but I'm from NC and I started to tune in as a kid in the late 2000s after the Hurricane won the cup, and Alex Ovechkin was that dude then. I haven't watched a hokey game in over a decade but here we are in 2025 and this accomplishment isn't surprising at all. Congrats!!

He was actually ONE goal short of TEN 50 goal seasons... INSANE!

When the Caps won the cup, I remember everyone seemed to be cheering for them. Like, the entire league wanted them to win. I think they played against the Golden Knights, and as much as it would've been cool to see the Knights win won in their maiden voyage, it was awesome to see Ovie get one.
