Guess Which Country Trump Is Threatening To Bomb Next! w/ Chris Hedges

Jimmy is joined by journalist and author Chris Hedges to discuss President Trump's recent threat to "blow up" Oman, a Gulf state with which the US has had diplomatic and trade ties since 1790—longer than any other Middle Eastern nation—after Oman asserted its territorial waters claim under UNCLOS (which the US has not signed), effectively covering the Strait of Hormuz alongside Iran's claim and allowing toll collection. Hedges notes that Trump's threat is counterproductive and reveals his ignorance of international affairs, as Oman is now "hooking up with Iran" after realizing that America is a paper tiger whose diplomatic corps has been gutted and replaced by sycophants. He explains that Israel seeks to destroy Iran's infrastructure and turn it into a failed state like Syria, while the US wants regime change and a puppet client state like in Venezuela or Iraq—but Iran is not Venezuela or Iraq, and Trump's threats actually boosted the Iranian regime's credibility, leading Iranians to spontaneously protect their infrastructure. Hedges concludes that Trump's bluster alienates traditional allies and that every threat he makes is ignored by the world, as he is surrounded by sycophants who do not tell him what he needs to hear.
