You damn know well that the fuckass Game Awards won’t nominate either Exit 8 or Iron Lung for best adaptation, but Super Mario Galaxy and Netflix DMC 2 will

I like this trend of indie horror games getting movies. Especially when they're made by people that clearly like the game, and do a good job of adding characters to an otherwise silent game.

Bro really saw a random child standing in an empty subway and immediately went, 'Yep, that's an anomaly.' Honestly? The most realistic reaction possible.

what this movie and something like Iron Lung have proved is that people don't care about big names as much as they do good stories and faithful adaptations

Game logic: See an anomaly, run for your life. Movie logic: See an anomaly, let's stop and unpack my unresolved fear of fatherhood.

I really liked this movie. I was lucky enough to go to a showing with a live Q&A with the director and we got to meet him. He said the reason he wanted to do this movie was because there wasn't an actual character, so he could make his own character and not have to try to make a faithful adaptation to a specific person. One of the coolest things that he said regarding making the film, was that they made a hallway with two identical corridors, every time the walking man exited one he would have to jump on a bike and pedal around to the other side, catch his breath and make the same walk. It was an interesting little look behind the scenes. Somebody asked if there was an anomaly that he wanted but had to cut. He had to cut three anomalies and his favorite one he had to cut was of the main character passing the photobooth, when he looked down at the bottom under the curtain he saw his shoes. And when he opened it, he was like the smiling man but hiding inside the photo booth. The studio didn't think it was needed so he had to cut it.

having read this filmmaker’s novel "If cats disappeared from the world," he seems to be really into the idea of being stuck in a loop of regret and rethinking your life choices once you’re in a place of no return. i thought this game’s adaptation worked really well for him.

i live in japan, and we had a special screening on august 8th (8/8) for select theaters a few weeks before the actual release. at the end of the movie, there was a portion where the actors, game developer, and director showed up to one of the theaters and did an interview session. everything was LIVE, streaming across all said theaters at the same time. pretty cool one more thing people wouldn't know about is that the main character was played by Nino. he's part of the BIGGEST boy band group in japan so far. so for japanese people, it's like seeing one of the backstreet boys randomly come out with a banger. and during the promotion for the movie, some IRL train stations actually had anomalies planted into them, and there was a nationwide hunt for all of them lmao
