I know that this trilogy wasn't that well received, but I still wish they could've at least finished the story they wanted to tell.
There was supposed to be 5 movies. Dumbledore and Grindelwald would have their final battle: Dumbledore ended up with the elder wand, and Grindelwald was put in prison. I'm still annoyed we never got to see it.
If you read Book 7, you get the gest of Dumbledore and Grindelwald's backstory in that when they were youths as well as the set-up to the concept of Obscurus. The films never really explain it but Albus' sister was attacked by three Muggle boys. Either via hitting/bullying or possible sexual assault because the attack left her traumatised and Albus' father went to prison for trying to kill the muggle boys. The mother moved houses with the kids to somewhere more quiet where Ablus met Grindelwald and "befriended" him and they both had the same goals and ideals. To make Wizard kind rise above the muggles and make the muggle slaves basically. However, Arianna the sister, started developing a sort of PTSD to magic and killed her mother during one of her breakdowns and then eventually during a confrontation between Albus, his brother and Grindelwald with Grindelwald attacking Aberforth and Albus trying to protect both his brother and Grindelwald, it led to a three way fight that ended with Arianna getting in the middle of it, trying to stop it and she was killed. No one knows whose spell killed her and Albus lived believing it was his spell that accidentally killed her, which is why Albus is screaming for Harry to kill him in film 6 because the potion he is drinking is making him relive his worst memory. Fantastic Beast 1 introduced a new element to the lore called a Obscurus and it matches somewhat with what we read about Arianna in Book 7. So the conclusion is Arianna became a Obscurus and that is how Grindelwald is aware of it in the first place and wants it. That said, the whole introduction of Credence into the lore is just...meh. His character should have stayed dead in Film 1. And JK Rowling should have stuck with making these prequels 3 Films only instead of trying to do 5 because now we're left with an unfinished story. It is what it is sadly.
I love that Tara didn’t know Dumbledore was gay until he actually physically said it, despite all the foreshadowing from the last movie lmao. ❤
The scene where Albus talks to Newt and explains how his sister died; is the reason why he got poisoned when putting on the ring horcrux. Dumbledore knew the gemstone on the ring was The Resurrection Stone; his plan was to use The Resurrection Stone; call forth his sister and apologise to her, but in his haste to wear the ring and use the Resurrection Stone; he overlooked the fact it had been turned into a Horcrux and he ended up being poisoned by the defence measures Voldemort placed on the ring.
Okay, not technically a fun fact, but one I’ve always loved. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law all stepped in to finish The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after Heath Ledger passed away. So seeing them all back together in this franchise? That’s just really cool to me!
