When internet doctor is better than hospital doctors.... Thanks a lot Dr Berg! You changed my life!
I was getting fatigue, anemia, neurological problems, lower cognitive function and a lot of other symptoms. I stumbled onto taking a disolvable b12 and got some life back. I then started on a quest to try to figure out was wrong with me. I took nearly every stomach helpful pill. I finally started taking Betaine before meals. Supplementing ADEK, B12, and Iron and started a slow and steady climb back to health. I found that I cant really eat sugar or it seems to weaken my stomach acid. Same with processed carbohydrates, bread, cakes, cookies. I sometimes wonder if it is also because these items have baking soda which weakens the acid? In any case I thank Dr. Berg for helping. These videos are invaluable! EDITED SEE BELOW. UPDATE: I believe I found I have/had beri beri. It is vitamin b1 deficiency. Years of stress led to weak stomach acid. Year (when younger) of smashing carbohydrates. Both led to B1 deficiency. I am unsure why it took me so long to figure this out. I would recommend people who have chronic low stomach acid supplement b1, b6, zinc. Goodluck and god bless.
Dr. Berg, I believe the description of the baking soda test is backwards: with high stomach acid, the burb should occur within the first minute as the base reacts quickly to the strong acid, and when the acid is weak, the reaction takes longer -- 5 minutes or so.
WARNING: He got it the wrong way around - if you don't burp within 1-5mins then your acid is LOW a rare mistake from him!
I wasted 40 years of my life not knowing this. It started slowly @22 and got worse until 49. I tried to eat healthy and switch to different diets but in vain. I had 9 of the symptoms in your list over time and additionally joint pains and an auto-immune eye inflammation in both eyes and needed Cortisone drops for two years to keep the eyes in check. Of course other factors like low vitamin D and B over time made things additionally worse. Fixing vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, selenium and a keto diet and intermittent fasting I got rid of the inflammation and 4 of the symptoms in the list (reflux, brittle nails, gas, cramps), but every diet change did still upset my stomach. All my doctors during these times never once checked my stomach acid. And now after only 4 days with BHCL I already gained 2 pounds weight and no more diarrhea/constipation and stomach pains and am able to eat more.
Dr. Berg...about baking soda...as far as I know it's the other way round...if you burp it means you have enough acid!

Thank you, Dr. Berg. Went back and forth with my GI for almost all of 2025. They gave me all the tests (upper and lower) and diagnosed me with me acid reflux at the end of a very long year. Every interaction with them I told them it felt like my stomach was "dead" and wasn't digesting food anymore. I got the impression they weren't listening to me, but rather going through the motions so they could rack up the insurance revenue. Prescription was 40mg of famotidine and 3x colace per day. I took the antacids for a few days, felt better at first, but then things went downhill quickly. I started taking your digestive enzymes about a week ago out of desperation. I'm back to normal again. Called the GI and of course they didn't test my PH, and were insistent this shouldn't be producing any results. Every single thing they've told me over the course of the past year caused more discomfort, didn't address the root cause, and didn't produce a positive outcome.
Hello fellow Bergies / Berg-ers 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Hope your Thursday goes well. 🙂🙃🙂
