GOP: "Leave it to the states to decide" 😊 States: Choose pro-choice. GOP: "No! Not like that!" 😡
When the GOP says “let the states decide” they don’t actually want the people of those states to decide; they want gerrymandered state legislatures to decide.
I love when they put specific issues directly to the ballot. You so often get to see the difference when people think about the issue and not the party attached to a name.
As a Kansan it was crazy to see how many yard signs there were for this issue. Saagar and Kystal are spot on with their analysis.
So the wingnuts commenting on the internet and publishing in the media don't represent a large chunk of Republican voters. I am pleasantly relieved.
Born and raised in Western Kansas and graduated from K-State. The whole paternal side of my family lives in Kansas. That being said, all my family voted No. From my more conservative parents in Garden City to my liberal cousins in JoCo. The No initiative had far wider of appeal to the Kansas values of freedom and privacy than the VTB people.
The conservative bubble remains undefeated among all bubbles.
So Kansas did this right let the voters in each state decide
On a more sobering note-Kansas abortion clinics (and there aren't many) are already experiencing a tsunami of patients coming from Oklahoma and Missouri. There's a video on YT from earlier this year where the reporters talk to the staff at the Wichita clinic, who express how crazy stressful its been for them since surrounding states enacted bans.
This really shows that more direct democracy is better.
