MAGA Can’t Spin This Sh*t

I knew my daughter was gay when she was about 12. When she was 17-18 she told me even though we had chatted about it for years, but that was that. She had told her two brothers not long after. My Three Musketeers always in lockstep! When she was 19 she decided to come out to her dad, a Muslim Arab. I remember we were all sitting in a restaurant on Pride Day when she decided to tell him. He was hungry, as usual, and as he glanced at her over his menu, readers balanced on his nose, stared at her for a long moment then said, “Tell me something I don’t know. I’m hungry, what do you want to eat?” The next day, they went to their usual Thursday afternoon movie at the local theatre. A few days later, she went over to visit her grandpa, my dad. I had already told him that my she wanted to talk to him about something important. She walked into the house, both grandma and grandpa sitting on the sofa. She said, “Hey grandpa, I need to talk to you about something.” Long pause. Deep breath. “I’m gay grandpa. I like girls.” His response, “Me too.” Grandma just sat there in her recliner trying not to laugh. She has since married, and I wish my folks had lived long enough to meet her wife. They would have been so happy to have another granddaughter. Truth? I’ve got one Hell of a great family. We have differences of opinion, different careers, different lives, but we’re all united in all the important things in life, and will go to the wall for each other. Damn! We’re lucky!

When i told my father i was gay and was HIV at 14, this was in Jamaica back in 1990 he separated the things we ate from, i had to bath outsideat the back of the house and i had to sit in one place in the living room to watch tv, no other couch. my whole shit went up and down to everyone, i had no counseling no doctors visit NOTHING, i endured the scorn, I'm no victim, I'm now paralyzed from a terrible situation living in the Netherlands, I'm happy and frikin contented and December I'm going to be 50, I'm a fucking survivor.
