Just because crime isn't reported doesn't mean that its not happening
Crime is not down. People don't bother reporting it because nothing is done about it and it's a waste of time.
Hard to get an accurate count when DA’s so often won’t pursue charges or allow people to plea serious charges down to misdemeanors.
Most small crimes are not reported.

My understanding is that many departments are not reporting their statistics to the FBI.
There's less crime because most of the crimes have been decriminalized. If you decriminalize all crime, there will be zero crime.
I haven't trusted the media or my government in longer than I can remember.
They just redefine what crime is so it will lower itself. Non reporting also works.
25 years ago (top ten US city), our command staff was altering the crime numbers BEFORE they reported the numbers to the FBI. They did this through the crime reporting system called COMPSTAT. Imagine what they can do now with 25 years of practice.
