The fact that we can tell the impact was in late spring or early summer is mind boggling. Thanks for the info Anton.

As an evolutionary biologist, I would just like to point out, once again among all the corrections of this type that are continually being made, that modern birds are in fact genuine dinosaurs, specifically theropods. Not just "descended from" or "evolved from" dinosaurs but now different from them: birds are in fact living dinosaurs. I also want to reiterate that I love this channel, and Petrov does an almost miraculous job of explaining a vast array of scientific topics.

There is some evidence that the shock from the Chixlub impact while not triggering the Deccan Traps did exacerbate them

My aunt (through marriage) got to work at the Tanis site for like 4 years as part of her job at the university of Calgary.

On the relationship between the Chicxulub impact and the Deccan Traps volcanism in India. Look at the position of the Indian Plate at that time as it drifts towards the Eurasian Plate: it must have been at the antipodes. Then look at any simulation of seismic wave transmission on the planet and see that they are concentrated at the point diametrically opposite to the one that is being disturbed. It seems reasonable to think that a powerful impact can activate magma chambers on the opposite side of the planet. And now comes the most astonishing part. Look at the huge impact crater recently found in Wilkes Land (Antarctica), look at its age: late Permian. It is believed that the Great Extinction was due to the volcanism of the Siberian Traps. Look at what position Siberia occupied in relation to Antarctica at the end of the Permian... And by the way, I love your channel. Your scientific rigor is much appreciated.

When Anton said we had narrowed down the time.. I was half expecting an answer like “around tea time”. I can think of a couple of ways we could figure out the approximate time of day.

There are some very good simulation videos of the impact here on YouTube.

Right type of water: the right mix of isotopes of hydrogen & oxygen that make up Earth's water.
