You gotta make sacrifices. When I struck back out on my own again after my Ex bounced on me I took on massive debt from her insane shopping habits. I moved into the crappiest apartment I could find, and I figured out that CVS pharmacy did weekly rotational sales on Cereal brands. I could eat (mostly cereal, not healthy) for $20-30 bucks a week with Milk. I didn't love it, but I saw an end in sight. It was the stepping stone in getting me to where I am very financially secure many years later at 40. It also trained my mind to be able to make necessary sacrifices when I really wanted something... Like cutting back on everything for a year before purchasing my first home in Los Angeles at 30. ❤
Bottom line: live below your means, invest the difference, retire in style.
Within the past 20 years, I've been able to live in 4 foreign countries as a digital nomad. I've been able to work just part-time. I've been able to complete two university degrees. How so? Because I canceled cable TV in 1995. Limit my paid streaming TV/movie watching to less than $15 per month. Have lived a car-free life for the better part of 15 years now, living in walkable neighborhoods. Instead of driving 1/4th mile to ALDI, I walk. Instead of driving 1/2 mile to Target, I walk. It's interesting how many of my fellow Americans laugh and bully me because I don't own a car. But again, not owning a car and being thrifty not only helped me reach my goal of living overseas but also helped me reach my health goals. Walking daily instead of driving? I've lost 130 pounds ( 58 kgs) and my stress level is at zero.
I Drive a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. 200k miles. I’ve Had it for 10 years. Plan on having it for another 10. Fix and maintain it myself when I can. Investing everything I save. Great advice !

You’ve got to find a balance because we may not make it to retirement! Spend some, save some and invest some! Enjoy your life in a smart way.
Remember folks, retirement isn’t about age, it’s about freedom. If you had enough at 1 year old, you’d already be retired for life.
