Description

Graham Planter's Senate run in Maine highlights the national Democratic Party's struggle with its own identity, as it attempts to recruit an aging, establishment candidate for a key Senate race while an insurgent, progressive challenger gains momentum. Emma Vigeland and the MR crew examine the deep-seated issues within the party's leadership, from the media's focus on vapid "horse race" politics to consistent failures by establishment Democrats to connect with and serve working-class and rural voters. Collins should have been kicked out the moment she said that Trump "learned his lesson" regarding impeachment. The fact that dems lost against shifty Susan in 2020 is actually embarrassing. I'm begging Maine dems to be smart about this.

I'm so sick and tired of early Boomers strangling this country with their horrid, corrupt politics.

That question of dropping out of the race if Mills became a candidate was insulting. Graham is a class act with the right agenda for this moment

They've got to be freaked out by the straight answer of "No."

Maine resident here. This interview is everything that's wrong with national politics. Every single question felt like a brushing aside, as if we're too naive and immature to pick our own leaders. If I were Platner, at least two of those "No" answers would have been a "What is wrong with you?" Sorry, but the preordained Sarah Gideon didn't beat Sue Collins, but spent through the nose to destroy Betsy Sweet. She sounded like she was running the Hillary Clinton playbook and, as predicted, she hasn't shown her face ever since. Graham Platner is getting me excited to go out and vote in a way I haven't really felt since the last Democratic Presidential Primary. Because instead of voting against someone, I'm voting *for* someone. And that's great! I only hope we don't have another preordained Sarah Gideon rammed through yet again. You only do that if you want Susan Collins to hold onto power.

This is exactly what happened to Bernie. Every question for Hillary was "how will you counter Donald Trump after he said this?" Every question for Bernie was "When will you drop out? Will you be Hillary's VP if she asks? What is your path to victory? Are you being divisive to the party at a time when there are calls for unity?" So he had to spend all of his time defending his right to simply stay in the race, while she got "presidential" questions the whole time, despite having only a small pledged delegate lead. In this case, Mills isn't even in the race and they're still trying to say "when will you drop out / what is your path." The ONLY thing CNN knows how to do with Progressives is to try to scold them and shame them into behaving as the party wants. Also, Mills saying "we'll see you in court" wasn't even a badass moment. She's just sitting there at a table saying it matter-of-factly. It's nothing bad, it's fine, but even Kamala's "I'm speaking"s to Pence were more galvanizing than this.

I'm a Mainer, nice to see some fresh blood for the democrats. It drives me crazy how the media calls Colins bipartisan, she's anything but.

I'm from Maine and I am a boomer. I am all in for Graham. Everyone in Maine needs to call or write Janet Mills to say PLEASE DO NOT RUN! This is the guy. It is clear. We don't have a lot of talent up here and they will NOT elect someone who is "from away"! He's got it! Lets all support him NOW!
