Jimmy you won't believe this but it's true. I fell asleep in a taxi and when I woke. I was at my hotel so I paid the fare and got out. Leaving my computer passport and 500000 RMB payroll in the cab. Got to my hotel grabbed a shower and composed an email to my boss while still in the shower. Intending to send it right before bedtime. When I looked at the empty desk in my hotel room I knew what a mess I was in. The phone rang and the front desk informed me that I had a visitor waiting for me in the lobby. When I saw the cab driver landing there with my computer bag. I was in shock and didn't really know what to think. I tried to give him a reward but he refused. So I opened the bag to Show him the 500000 RMB Cash and my passport. Everything was still there but he still wouldn't take any reward. As God is my witness this is a true story. I lived and worked in China for fourteen years and I can honestly say that Chinese people are the hardest working most honest people that I have ever had the good fortune of meeting.
I have lived in China for 20 years now, but still am amazed at how people leave their shops unattended and nothing gets stolen.
I lived in China for a few years, before the cameras were so widespread. I can tell you they are generally very honest people to start with, and the cameras have little to do with reducing crime. But the cameras just make it very easy for the police to track down the few criminals they have. The comment from Kurt about Chinese being "racist" is not really correct. They just don't want immigrants flooding their country, which is something that USA should be doing. I also lived in Taiwan for years, and can tell you that China was far freer and easier to live in than Taiwan. As far as the foreigner always being at fault, its same in every country in Asia I've lived in. The worst is probably Philippines where being a foreigner and a victim of a traffic accident is just an opportunity to extort money from you.
America has been off the rails for so long, most Americans don't even know we're off the rails.
In America if you call the police for a problem you're the one that ends up going to jail.
Jimmy’s description of American cops is spot on.
Western people complained that there are too many cameras in China, but nobody complained that there are too many guns in the US.
We call them people’s police in China. They come from people, for the people. And we have people’s doctors and people’s teachers and most importantly peoples liberation army. Which are all highly respected professions.
Jimmy, our neighbor, an engineer, was sent to China for seven years. When he and his wife came home, they begged to be sent back, which they were!
My friend had an equipment trailer stolen from his business. It contained about $80,000 worth of tools and equipment. The abandoned trailer was found a day later behind a grocery store a few miles away. No matter which direction of travel they would have driven, they would have been filmed by at least 3 cameras. No investigation, just a case number and condolences.
