Join my mailing list https://briankeating.com/list to win a real 4 billion year old meteorite! All .edu emails in the USA 🇺🇸 will WIN! Does 1x1=2? Is the periodic table wrong? Are all conspiracies wrong? Are experts failing us? While there is no clear answer to these questions, it is clear that there is a growing public distrust of experts and institutions, and even more clear that this has severe consequences for society and science. Join me and my colleague Eric Weinstein as we explore this in the context of Terrance Howard’s appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience. We dig deep into the reasons for this skepticism, from political pressures to historical deceptions, and hypothesize potential solutions! Eric Weinstein is an American mathematician at Thiel Capital, Peter Thiel's investment firm. He is the host of the Portal Podcast Though not an academic physicist, he proposed a unified theory of physics in 2013. He and his brother Bret Weinstein coined the term Intellectual Dark Web to refer to an informal group of pundits. Eric is a vocal critic of modern academic hierarchies and advocates for advances in scientific theory over an emphasis on experimental results. We discuss funding, academic freedom, and theoretical vs experimental physics. For the record, in my humble opinion, being curious is NOT dangerous.

" we need to say science and the universities are trustworthy." Wrong. Science and the universities need to become trustworthy.

Tired of hearing that certain ideas are “dangerous”. If a bad idea becomes popular, it will face scrutiny, if it doesn’t hold up under scrutiny it will be deemed a bad idea and it will be moved on from. The “intellectuals” don’t give the rest of us enough credit by saying that certain ideas shouldn’t even be looked into because of their perceived “danger” and who knows what we might find by looking into fringe ideas.

The reason people don’t trust experts is because they are getting caught lying!

Truth can stand up to scrutiny. Only a lie can't be questioned.

In case you’re looking in the comments to see if they grapple with any of what was said by Terrance Howard, they do but for almost no time and not at all in depth. This video is poorly titled.

No one is better at breaking the fourth wall then Erik. I really appreciate that this is where he tries to take the conversation
