When counterterrorism director Joe Kent resigned in protest over the war, Trump was reportedly upset that Gabbard didn't criticize him. According to Axios, Trump was privately polling cabinet members on whether to fire her until Roger Stone intervened, warning that it would turn her into a martyr within the anti-war MAGA base.
