This was a very unformed take on the state of affairs in Canada

It's funny listening to Americans cover Canadian politics. It's abundantly clear they have no idea what's going on.

Listening to this as a Canadian and how far off these two are makes me question whether they are right about other topics that they cover

Trudeau is too stubborn to leave. He’s not smart Ryan. He’s extremely unpopular. It wasn’t really the trump visit it was the gst holiday and $200 cheques he was gonna send Canadians this holiday season. More of his cabinet ministers have left and immigration and housing is another major issue. . I dealt with his people for work once it was awful

Hi Emily, as a Canadian, those weren't the "political gimmicks" his outgoing finance minister was referring to. She took issue with Trudeau implementing a 2-month tax holiday on some items (she was fiscally to the right of Trudeau). She wasn't referring to the Mar-a-Lago dinner.

The "gimmick" wasn't going to Mar a Lago, that's what he was supposed to do. What the gimmick as was giving Canadians 2 months off paying federal sales tax (GST) and giving lower income Canadians a $250 cheque when we are in deficit and should be saving in case these 25% tariffs come to be.

You got the ''what'' right but not the ''why'' quite right. Freeland resigned because she disagreed with the latest move by Trudeau to give a 2 month sales tax break plus inflation relief checks. Freeland wanted to keep the 2023-2024 deficit under 40 billion. On Monday she had to give a fiscal update were she had to present a 60 billion deficit that included a lot of spending that the prime ministers office asked for, against her will. To add to that, Trudeau wanted her to present the update and then announce he was replacing her on Wednesday, making it look as if she was to blame for his bad fiscal management. And now 40 to 60 elected liberals are asking for Trudeau to step down 😅.
