Would love to see this experiment scaled up to the size of, say, a cat.
I’m neither here nor there on this subject.
The only saving grace of quantum physics is that it works.
That 7000 atom jump is such a neat milestone. The cool part is not just the size, it is that quantum behavior can survive in something much bigger than the usual tiny particle picture.
So many people get confused about this. I prefer Anton's 'just the facts' approach. Thank you, Anton.
Schrodinger devised his thought experiment to show, yes, the weirdness of quantum mechanics, but more importantly (for him) the absurdity, or incompleteness, of quantum theory, which he himself played a key role in developing. In this, he allied himself with Einstein, and like Einstein, he spent over a decade trying to unite relativity with quantum mechanics. While Einstein was beavering away at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, Schrodinger was doing the same at the Dublin (Ireland) Institute for Advanced Studies, each of them in constant contact with the other, announcing (supposed) breakthroughs, with the other disproving them.
“There seems to be no limit.” Humanity’s last words.
"It is no longer a thought experiment" made me gasp and for a second I thought they actually did the test to a cat.
"In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious" Terry Prattchet 1992
I like how scientists are actively seeking to speed up, with quantum technology, the development of GTA6
