Nobody moved to Dubai for the weather. It' uninhabitable for half of the year. Taxes and safety are the only reasons.

It was a deliberate tax strategy: start with zero tax, attract hundreds of billions of dollars over five years, then introduce a tax later. This approach compensates for the initial tax-free period while ensuring substantial long-term revenue with a now 9% tax. It was a strategic long game.

As much as I hate tax. I would pay 9% for the safety, security, cleanliness etc.

Yes corporation tax is 9% now but you cannot view this as an increase. Dubai used to have a requirement that local businesses need a local partner that would have 50% ownership. That has been scrapped and 9% corp tax introduced which is effectively a reduction. No doubt businesses are better off versus the old regime.
