Description

Recorded on 5/1/23. From Tucker Carlson to Dominion to Biden’s age, Roy Wood Jr. didn’t hold back at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. In this episode, he sits down with some of his writers for the correspondents’ dinner – Christiana Mbakwe-Medina, Felonious Munk, and David Angelo – to reflect on the writing process leading up to the dinner, why the Property Brothers threw a wrench in Roy’s speech, the Kanye joke that didn’t make it in, and which conservative is now a big fan of Roy. Roy has the humility of a true star. He knows he has talent, so he's happy to celebrate the contributions of his writers in public.

The joke and commentary about school shoots was quite possibly the most vital thing he said. My daughter was on campus during the MSU rampage this year. I appreciate Roy and the writers addressing that more than words can convey.

I could have watched another hour of this. Thank you for this-- I love hearing about the process. Roy, you killed it, and I was so happy for you; it's so cool to see some of the team behind the magic.

I thought you all wrote a brilliant routine, and Roy's delivery was right on as always. The jokes that didn't get many laughs or applause were very close to the bone; I assumed that was intentional. At some point you made every person in that room uncomfortable -- that is effective comedic advocacy, imo. I loved the bit about Roy's mother. How wonderful that she could be there! I think it's just as well that you only had three weeks to put the speech together. If you had worked for months on it, you would still have had to do all those revisions in the final few days.
