The confusion of some Christians over socialism comes down to one very simple concept: Christianity demands voluntary giving and charity. The confused people hear "giving and charity" and think socialism, but actually the key distinguishing feature of socialism is that it isn't voluntary. And therefore it isn't Christianity. It isn't even charity.
It's also not compatible with megachurch prosperity preachers like Joel Osteen and Kenneth Copeland who have giant mansions and private jets.
I love how Michael will let his guests talk. Class act sir
Selling your possessions and giving the money to the poor is totally different from seizing the means of production.
My dad said he is a socialist "christian" and i told him that was an oxymoron.
We in TN are so proud to have Tim Burchett repping us!! Go Tim!!
I used to, years ago, go along with the ridiculous idea that "Jesus was a socialist"... then Informed myself and challanged my own thoughts and even remember how my grandfather in Peru had his land taken away by a military socialist dictator (Velasco) and I asked myself would Jesus be down with wealth redistribution? Basically stealing ppls property? 😂 or centralization of power? Or godless collectivism?
LEST WE FORGET Jesus's parable of the man hiring different workers throughout the day...and when he pays the first workers what they agreed to, but then pays the last set of workers the same despite being hired later, he notes to the first groups "Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money?" Y’know--words that any socialist would deem..."heresy."
Tucker talking to that guy is a great example of the blind leading the blind lol
Another Mayflower connection is Plymouth Colony's five-time Governor, William Bradford, who denounced communism, by name, in his Of Plymouth Colony, documenting life in the colony between 1621 and 1646. It was agreed that the colonists would work in concert with one another and share equally the benefits of their combined labor. Well, they almost starved to death. It quickly became evident that the young and fit single men worked harder yet received no more than little children who did not work at all. In his journal, Governor William Bradford (in office 1621–1657) wrote: "So they began to consider how to raise more corn, and obtain a better crop than they had done, so that they might not continue to endure the misery of want. At length after much debate, the Governor, with the advice of the chief among them, allowed each man to plant corn for his own household, and to trust themselves for that…. This was very successful. It made all hands very industrious, so that much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could devise, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better satisfaction. … The failure of the experiment in communal service, which was tried for several years, and by good and honest men, proves the emptiness of the theory of Plato and other ancients, applauded by some of later times, –that the taking away of private property, and the possession of it in community, by a commonwealth, would make a state happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For in this instance, community of property (so far as it went) was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment which would have been to the general benefit and comfort. … Let none argue that this is due to human failing, rather than to this communistic plan of life in itself. I answer, seeing that all men have this failing in them, that God in His wisdom saw another plan of life was fitter for them. …" Rather than the land and the bounty being owned by the community the land was divided amongst the individuals for their own use. So socialism was tried and rejected by the New World Pilgrims 200 years before Karl Marx was even born.
