Description

In this Command Post edition of Bulwark Takes, Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling (Ret.) and Ben Parker break down how Trump’s snub of NATO allies is shaping the Iran conflict, and how even spectacular military success against the Iranian government and military won’t necessarily lead to victory. Have questions about the Iran war? Send them to [email protected] and we’ll try to answer them in the next episode! NATO is a defensive alliance, not back-up buddies for ill-advised war they weren't even given a heads up on.

Impossible to overstate how big a score General Hertling has been for the Bulwark (and America).

Allies rejecting Trump makes him appear weak, so he turns 180 (again) saying he doesn't need them in a pathetic face saving act.

You mean the guy who doesn't understand how mail-in voting works or batteries or percentages doesn't have a plan for war with Iran? 😮

Why is Mike Johnson always sitting next to Trump? The job of Congress is to be separate from the executive branch and to prevent it from abusing its power.

Imagine Iran had mounted a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor and assassinated Roosevelt. That's what we did to them. Their reaction should be no surprise.

when Ben lists the costs of this war, I was dismayed that he failed to mention the huge numbers of ordinary people's' lives being snuffed out in Iran, Lebanon, and elsewhere -- plus thousands and thousands with their homes destroyed. please don't overlook that aspect -- there is a tendency to be grossly cavalier about this kind of destruction in other countries.

When I was an instructor at the Canadian Army Command and Staff College, I prided myself on training my students on how to brief concisely. By the time they left me, anyone could walk in, point to a student and say "Captain, give me a 47 second brief on the tactical situation (pick a time/pick a subject)" and the student would jump up and deliver. It took time and effort, but they all learned to do it.
