Aaron Alexander & Andrew Gordon react to Episodes 3 & 4 of Heated Rivalry, the Crave / HBO sports romance series adapted from Rachel Reid’s novel, as the show deepens its emotional scope by exploring secrecy, superstition, jealousy, and the long-term consequences of hidden relationships in professional hockey. Episode 3 shifts focus to league golden boy Scott Hunter (François Arnaud – Midnight, Texas, Blindspot), whose scoring slump leads him to a smoothie shop run by Kip (Robbie G.K. – Departure, Murdoch Mysteries). When Scott’s performance improves after following a superstitious routine tied to Kip, their flirtation evolves into a secret relationship. As Scott struggles with being closeted and prioritizing his public image, the emotional toll on Kip becomes increasingly clear. The episode builds toward a heartbreaking turning point as Scott refuses to publicly acknowledge their relationship, leaving Kip isolated and devastated despite their genuine connection. Episode 4 returns to the central rivalry as Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams – Bel-Air, Holly Hobbie) and Ilya Rosanov (Connor Storrie – Slasher, The Porter) continue their on-again, off-again sexual relationship from 2014 to 2016. As the Metros rise to championship success, both men deny the seriousness of their connection when questioned by those close to them. A rare moment of domestic intimacy brings their feelings to the surface, but when emotional boundaries blur, Shane pulls away. His subsequent public relationship with actress Rose Landry fuels jealousy & denial on both sides, culminating in a tense nightclub sequence where envy, pride, and self-sabotage collide. Notable moments include Scott’s MVP-level superstition arc, the emotional fallout of closeted love, Shane and Ilya’s first use of each other’s real names during intimacy, and the painful contrast between private truth and public performance. Episodes 3 & 4 expand Heated Rivalry beyond tension-driven romance, grounding it in vulnerability, fear, & the cost of not choosing honesty. #HeatedRivalry #SportsRomance #JacobTierney #HudsonWilliams #ConnorStorrie #HockeyDrama #EnemiesToLovers #LGBTQSeries #ProHockey #RomanceSeries #BookToScreen #TVReaction #TVReview #Binge #Bingeworthy #React #ReactTo #Reaction GREG & JOHN's Heated Rivalry Reactions: - Heated Rivalry Ep 1 & 2 Reaction: https://youtu.be/I-sdN9Udozk - Heated Rivalry Ep 3 & 4 Reaction: https://youtu.be/0NTMrErECko - Heated Rivalry Ep 5 Reaction: https://youtu.be/-g2iuQjZRSA - Heated Rivalry Ep 6 Season Finale Reaction: https://youtu.be/qHqpzgQmc10 0:00 Checking In! 1:24 Heated Rivalry 1x3 Reaction 23:40 Heated Rivalry 1x4 Reaction 41:10 Heated Rivalry Review Stranger Things 5, Episode 8 | Series Finale Reaction: https://youtu.be/QieNZTmeuxQ Follow Aaron on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therealaaronalexander/?hl=en Follow Andrew Gordon On Socials: https://www.youtube.com/@MovieSource https://www.instagram.com/agor711/?hl=en https://twitter.com/Agor711 Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ RR Clips & Shorts Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ReelRejectsClips Follow TheReelRejects On The Socials: https://www.instagram.com/reelrejects/ https://www.tiktok.com/@thereelrejects?lang=en https://twitter.com/thereelrejects https://www.facebook.com/TheReelRejects/ Music Used In Ad: Hat the Jazz by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Happy Alley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Head Editor: https://www.instagram.com/praperhq/?hl=en Supervising Producer: https://twitter.com/nerdchronic?lang=en Co-Editor: Greg Alba Co-Editor: John Humphrey Music In Video: Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow & Listen to Us Wherever You Get Your Podcasts!! - https://open.spotify.com/show/3XHMwbveiznxSOGxN9XT0M - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vc3Rhci13YXJzLXRhbGs - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-reel-rejects-tv-movie-recaps/id1616339990 - https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Apocalypse-Podcast/B08JJP58FG PLAYLISTS: Movie Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw-comtadVs8b9JsZEWHUyr8 Sketches & Short Films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-bIhJVeYWw_zWuTRfBOUP3aYyIYRzc2y

When Ilya sees Miles at the bar, he realizes Rose is there and then probably Shane. That look of realization on his face is epic!

There should also be some context to the two relationships that reactors don’t take into account. Ilya and Shane are teens when they meet. Both closeted and not entirely sure how to navigate. Kip is out and has navigated that life and he’s also older. Scott while closeted is also older when we meet him. The two relationships are hard to compare because we meet them at totally different stages in life

Men being immediately infatuated with Scott and Kip never ceases to fascinate me 😂

Ilya telling shane about other women was to fish out Shane's sexuality and also subtly telling shane that despite all the hot women he has around him, he's too "lazy" to find others n choose to hookup with shane every time. it's just lowkey ilya telling shane that he likes him so much that he chose shane over other women (easier options for ilya cause he's bi)

The biggest miscommunication for Shane and Ilya is they have opposite comfort/trigger points 😭 Ilya is comfortable with sex and his sexuality and uses it to try to open up and get Shane to open up (talking about women to let Shane know he's bisexual, trying to see if Shane is also bisexual) whereas Shane is super uncomfy talking about those things so he shuts those convos down or changes topic - trigger point for him. And Shane's got a wonderful family that loves him and is active in his life, so he uses that to try and open up and connect (telling Ilya his dad likes the New Yorker, asking Ilya about his father) - but Ilya's family life is awful and hard and a trigger point, so he shuts those convos down and changes topic. A lot of the friction/lack of communication in eps 1-4 for these two - even when it's fairly clear this is more than just a casual thing for either of them - is just having opposite comfort zones and trigger points and still trying to connect despite that. I mean, the only place Shane is able to get ginger ale THIS WHOLE EPISODE is at Ilya's, and Shane is willing to blow up his whole pregame routine by staying over. It's such a good way of showing how earnest but how YOUNG (like 25) they both are 😭

Just gonna point this out... Shane and Ilya were SEVENTEEN when they met. 18 or 19 when the shower scene happened, 22 when the "we didn't kiss" happened and only 25 now. You wanted full emotionally mature relationships during that time.

Shane and Scott are NOT on the same Olympic team, Shane is Canadian and Scott is American

Shane is not *diagnosed* autistic. Rachel Reid (the author) said he probably never gets diagnosed or even realizes it himself but it's part of his character.
