This is another example of giving credit to the wrong person. It has always been portrayed as a battle between Westinghouse and Edison with Edison being the aggressor. Edison has always received credit for things he did NOT do. That is because he was the better self-promoter. The real struggle was between Nicola Tesla and Tomas Edison. Tesla was correct and Edison was totally wrong. Tesla was far ahead of anyone on earth (including Westinghouse and Edison) at the time. Although I think someone would have eventually sorted it out, the world would not be where it is today in electrical technology without Tesla. By the way ac was Tesla's idea NOT Westinghouse. Also the light bulb that illuminated the 1893 worlds fair was invented by Tesla NOT Edison or Westinghouse but that little tid bit is (for some reason) always overlooked by some "historians".
THANK YOU: This is the Old School History Channel we all loved.... incredible topics without the hype. Typical viewers were smart enough to separate real from conjecture. People who watched were not afraid to have new theories presented. Viewers were smart enough to actually do decent research themselves. Today, it's better known as The 'Hysteria' Channel. Nothing but conspiracy driven vomit. Treasure hunters, Monster hunters, Ghost hunters, Alien hunters, ad nauseam. Typical viewer today now can barely add 2 plus 2. If you challenge their crazy thinking, you become an object of their immediate scorn and ridicule. Have had more than a few physical threats. PLEASE bring back the 'Real' History Channel. Real informed viewers will watch content and support ads sponsored. We will watch anything but the intellectual vomit currently shown. How these people can call their channel 'science' is beyond me.
Modern Marvels is one of my favorite programs!
I love how they say "solar doesn't polute" well that's likely true BEFORE you factor in the mining and disposal costs to build/discard the panels/ batteries. In the case of grid-tied solar (if you get the same price for sold electric as purchased) at least you can eliminate the highly toxic batteries(but not everyone can do it or there won't be any electricity when the sun doesn't shine)

The title of this episode is Power Plants. Harnessing fossil fuels is only 1 method of producing power. This is an excellent documentary Modern Marvel's is known for
Edison was a genius when it came to hiring people who actually invented things. Most of his ideas were hairbrain and never amounted to much...for example, the single pour all concrete houses. Enough said there. Not to mention the electrocution of elephants in his campaign to smear Westinghouse's AC current. Ol' boy receives way too much credit. Last but not least he got rid of Tesla who worked for him. Tesla was the real genius behind what we have today.
I like that home that produces more power than it uses on a clear day. ..a clear day, what's that?
H.H.Holmes enjoyed the lights also.
RIP San Onofre
