Ellie at the end: “None of you understand. I'm not locked up in here with YOU. You're locked up in here with ME”
I loved how Ramsey's Ellie puts on a bit of a deeper voice when she meets James & David in order to sound more commanding and intimidating.
weirdly, I think part of James's desire to have Ellie killed immediately is because he knows what David wants to do with her. He dislikes knowing and letting David get away with being predatory, and would rather Ellie just be dead to get quick vengeance. That's why he's so ok with just killing Ellie at the end. Did anyone else get that impression? I never played the game so I didn't know where it was going and that might be why Edit: I’ve thought more about it and I’m more convinced lol James tries to argue that Ellie’s death is “God’s will,” as in taking Ellie with them and surviving isn’t. Bc he thinks what David is doing is not God’s will. But David doesn’t accept that, and James just falls in line
One of the things that caught my ear was both Joel and David talking about sheep. "They're quiet and do what they're told" as a point of contrast between episodes and characters.
My family was blown away by this episode who are all unfamiliar with the source material. I really like seeing the reaction of newcomers to one of my favorite games of all time!
I also loved how Troy Baker who originally played Joel in the video games was in this show in a real role as David’s right hand msn James. He did great but of course he’ll always be Joel to us fans. Also I read an interview of Troy where he said he saw the whole show already and found Pedro’s performance to be so inspiring he wished he could go back in time and play his original version of Joel differently. Basically Troy’s saying that Pedro’s Joel was better than his own portrayal of Joel even though I believe they’re both awesome as Joel.
Pedro is the perfect tv show Joel. Troy is the perfect video game Joel.
Troy Baker is on Alanah Pearce’s podcast almost every week. He’s talked about why he doesn’t typically do live action many times. Essentially he’s at the top of his game in the voice acting field, but if he were to do movies and tv there’s just way more competition and he’d have to compete much harder for roles that he’d probably not get, and be overlooked and not nearly as successful. So he’s just decided to stick to VA work where he’s extremely successful and kind of revered as one of the greats in his field. But make no mistake, Troy’s just as good as any other live action movie star working today.
I think something people often forget is that voice acting IS acting. In the case of The Last of Us, they not only got to voice, but mo cap too, it is on par with regular acting and takes just as much time and energy. It’s why often voice actors can translate to actual on screen performances so easily. Because they are just as much actors as any other.
