I believe the narrator at the beginning (I'm thinking it's Peter Thomas) is the man who did the narration for the old true crime series "Forensic Files" (aka "Medical Detectives") that has been airing episodes on loop since the mid-90s . VERY distinctive voice.
Narraror was Tom Lanpier-- at least that's what was written in the description.
🐢The P38 is an amazing war bird. 🎉
This was a different time in America. We were attack and the attitude of the general public were we need to defend our country and we must all do our part for the war effort. I remember my mom telling me about a co-worker and friend of her. She and her family were Japanese American who own a small piece of land, yet for their own protection put in concentration camps until the war was over. I never knew if they were ever paid back the land and what they lost. 😢

Wartime US intelligence had a difficult decision to make, assassinate a high leader in Japan’s military hierarchy or keep the secret safe that we knew their code. Of course history tells us what the eventual outcome of that decision was. The Japanese military now knew that we broke their code but in turn we ended one of their highest generals forever. History never forgets..
Ive found footage of his plane wreck on YouTube its way out there on an island, he was in an twin engine plane, and the two zeros were escort iirc
Sadly, a great deal of cultural emphasis is on wars and warriors. Each civilization highlights its successes and ignores the greater context. As a result, we lose so much of the broader value of different cultures and the general commonality of humanity. Fortunately for us, this war had some happy accidents like this example. D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Rommel's exit from N. Africa and Doolittle's success in launching bombers all contributed to the finale. The incredible devastation from a couple of nuclear bombs brought us to today's events. Tokyo is rebuilt as are many similar cities in Germany, England and other areas. Korea, VietNam and the Mid-East have filled the void in the interim, also rebounding to varying degrees as tourist destinations. I'd much rather buy someone lunch instead of promoting their extermination.
