John Heilbron argues that Galileo became more than a scientist — he became a symbol of intellectual resistance to institutional authority. Do you think societies today still need “Galileo figures” willing to challenge dominant systems of thought?
Galileo spent the last 9 years of his life under house arrest even though he publicly recanted his claim that the Earth revolves around the sun, even though it is said that he murmured under his breath that "yet it revolves" as his sentence was read!
The only thing our many theological certainties have taught me is the utter absurdity of theological certainties. Religion: making up realities that support the delusion of significance.
He mystakes shows Galileo didnit have problems . Galileo was under arrest, blind and alone . Galileu faced significant challenges due to his beliefs conflicting with Roman inquisition. The institution hold strong beliefs and had problems . Absolutetly wrong.
Galileo wasn't the only one finding their theological perspective of reality to be defective. It was the rapid advancements in science that they were trying to control. Christianity is the most divided and fought over absolute theological certainty ever created by the mind of man. A truth with 10,000 faces. Science has always been a serious threat to the credibility of our theological certainties. Since they seems too function no matter what absurd metaphysical nonsense we believe exists.
What he really did was change the entire perspectival illusion of the cosmos. Which is what science has done for centuries. Just listen to Robert’s account of the multidunious theories of consciousness.
A crença do divino tem a função de termos sempre presente a realidade relativa á nossa finitude
